We have paid particular attention to the reorganization of the Zitouna Faculty to elevate it to the status of a university in order to enable it to contribute again to strengthening Islam in Tunisia and abroad and become a privileged destination for students from all over the world, following the example of what the Zitouna Mosque used to be for hundreds of years.”

Excerpts from an interview given by President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali to Al-Hawadith Magazine.

The purpose that we aim at by creating this site is : The presentation of the most ancient university in the Arab- Muslim World, its eminent role in the preservation of the national identity throughout dozens siecles, and of all what it can achieve, nowadays, by taking part in the modernisation of the society and its support in its mediterranean and world environment. Our prime target is communication, first with oneself through going further into the knowledge of our scientific heritage in its purity and second with the other hoping to establish a fruitful dialogue between the civilizations and consolidate the common human values. We also hope to reach the largest employment, nurture the culture of initiative and the creation of the private entreprise. We try to realize the objectives by creating the new fields and the formulation of programs and all what follows in the context of the intellectual life witch helps in the opening of the university on its economic and social environment. Our ambition can only be excellence and brillance.
